I get questions from people in Camarillo regarding ice and how often to use it.
Someone asked me today regarding icing for the first 24 hours, then after that, using heat.
Don't do this. This was a common recommendation in the 1980's because they knew that standard inflammation occured for only about 24 hours. This is actually not the case. It can last longer.
People often aggravate their condition with excessive sitting, twisting and compression of their back. This causes more inflammation of their back pain.
Ice is needed for longer than 24 hours.
Ask me in person how long you should ice for. Often it is based upon a case-by-case basis.
